Nutrition Assistant
Currently as a nutrition assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital, it has really opened my eyes to the field of clinical nutrition and food service management. I am so grateful to be working alongside dietitians, dietetic interns, the food service department and other healthcare workers, which I strongly believe has helped prepare me for a dietetic internship. Most importantly, speaking with patients about their diets and food preferences, and providing nutrition education based on their special dietary needs has helped me to put into practice what I’ve learned in many of my DPD courses. My responsibilities include, processing diet orders and receiving orders via communication with patients and health care professionals, verifying that orders comply with diet prescription, identifying patient needs; whether it be therapeutic, food drug interaction, cultural preferences and food allergies. I also conduct daily patient care rounds to obtain patient meal preferences that comply with the prescribed diet. |
